Devin Booker scored 30 points on his 26th birthday to lead Phoenix to its fourth straight victory, 124-109, over Houston on Sunday.
The Suns went up by as many as 12 in the quarter. They needed that cushion as Houston tied the game late in the third before Phoenix answered with a 4-0 burst to take a 90-86 lead into the fourth.The Suns are being cautious with him in terms of undergoing re-evaluation in a week, but already been able to get in a workout.Now whether Ayton returns early is still in question.
If Phoenix follows the timetable to a tee, he won’t be back until Nov. 7 at Philadelphia at the earliest to begin a four-game road trip. It makes sense because the Suns have a back-to-back against Portland before traveling Sunday to Philadelphia. Bismack Biyombo and Landale can hold it down without Ayton. That alone gives Phoenix confident it can win without Ayton.Plus, Dario Saric is the ultimate insurance if Biyombo and Landale aren’t being productive.Coach Stephen Silas said he feels pressure for these Rockets to succeed, but defining what success is with this group may be even more challenging for him.
“For me, success with this group is with those guys growing and learning and getting better and growing through the experiences and learning how to deal with adversity,” Silas said before Sunday’s game. “I feel a lot of pressure with that. Helping these guys along to where they’re going to get because I do think this team is going to be very good — one day.”
