After their biological father renounced the Harkonnen name, Feyd-Rautha and his brother became the adoptive sons of the Baron, making Feyd-Rautha the noble house's heir apparent. As a foil for Paul, Feyd's role is important not just to the narrative's progression but to the themes of Dune too.
