Rescuers on Sunday came to the aid of five fishermen whose boat foundered in the strong winds and heavy seas off Oriental Mindoro, according to the Philippine Coast Guard's (PCG's) K9 Force.  

Rescuers on Sunday came to the aid of five fishermen whose boat foundered in the strong winds and heavy seas off Oriental Mindoro, according to the Philippine Coast Guard's K9 Force.

In a Monday statement, the PCG identified the victims as boat captain Edmon Manato, 52; Jayvee Manato, 22; Rocky Madera, 23; Allen dela Cruz, 23; and Ernie Merida, 51. Coast Guard Sub-station Roxas received a report from the Maritime Police about the incident involving the FBCA La Capitana at around 9 a.m.

Search and rescue teams from the PCG, Maritime Police, and Bansud town’s Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office responded to the emergency.— DVM, GMA Integrated News
