Trent WIlliams dismissed accusations that he tips plays based on his stance as the 49ers’ left tackle.
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Trent Williams’ body language told it all, this being at the media podium, rather than at the line of scrimmage.
Williams is a nine-time Pro Bowler and reigning All-Pro. He takes his craft seriously, as opposed to what he thinks of outsiders’ belief he’s tipping plays based on where his left, outside foot is aligned. The NFL has varying degrees of “tells.” Remember last year when people thought Russell Wilson gave away Seattle’s run or pass plays based off whether he had in his mouthpiece? A Minnesota Vikings safety once revealed that Terrell Owens gave away his intentions by gripping his gloves before a pass play and dangling his arms before run blocking.

Saw that he would kick his left foot twice for a pass play.On the flip side, Williams can anticipate defenders’ motives, too. He gave the example of how a defensive end might creep in if he must move from the C-gap to the A-gap, or how a safety must cover deep if a cornerback is blitzing.
Foerster’s examples of past tells: some players have nervous ticks with their hand, some offensive formations will be revealing enough. Then there are feet, heads, hips. “There’s a million things. That’s why you have to stay vigilant,” Foerster added. “We’re always conscious of it. At the same time, a guy has to do his job.”
