Jimmy Garoppolo successfully navigated the 49ers to a 24-9 win over the Los Angeles Rams Monday night at the Coliseum, the seventh straight time he’s been on the winning side in the regular season with one loss coming in last year’s NFC Championship game. Garoppolo didn’t throw rainbows downfield but he didn’t have to, picking up 92 yards of completions on short passes with long runs to Deebo Samuel and Kyle Juszczyk .
It’s been a remarkably consistent formula for beating the Rams, with the 49ers keeping the attack balanced while Matthew Stafford and the Rams were forced to air with regularity until they finally made the big mistake. It came when Talanoa Hufanga correctly read a quick pass to the right intended for Cooper Kupp, jumped the route and took it 52 yards for the touchdown that would give the 49ers offense all the help it would need to improve to 2-2.Garoppolo was 16 of 27 for 239 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 100.7.
