KUALA LUMPUR: About 400,000 students from the B40 group have so far benefitted from the various aid schemes provided by Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP), says Datuk Zaizalnizam Zainun.

The YWP chief executive officer said the schemes included food aid for secondary school students, special schooling aid and early aid for students at institutions of higher learning .

Zaizalnizam said since it was established 37 years ago, YWP played a role in helping to upgrade the standard of living of low-income earners and the needy in the Federal Territories."Of that total, 76 students were from the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency,” he said at the handing over of aid under various schemes by Prime Minister’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail here Wednesday .

Seven diploma students received a one-off payment of RM500 each while 20 bachelor’s degree students received RM1,000 each under the early aid for IPT student scheme. Nine traders and hawkers received the offer letter for the YWP Micro Credit Scheme which provides business financing of up to RM5,000. At the ceremony, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Bandar Tun Razak MP, also presented YWP special cash aid of RM500 to recipient Mariah Shaari, who is raising an educationally challenged relative. - Bernama
