40 distressed OFWs return from Kuwait

Forty OFWs who were subjected to abuse by their employers in Kuwait have arrived in the country with the assistance of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

According to Mark Salazar's report on “24 Oras”, the distressed OFWs told stories of actual harm and threats to their lives.

“Parang mamamatay na po ako kasi binugbog ako ng amo ko dahil lang sa paghalik ko sa alaga kong dalawang taong gulang. Lahat na po siguro, sipa, hila ng buhok, tapos untog ka sa semento,” said one of the migrants.These tales are no longer and need to be changed, according to the Department of Migrant Workers .

“The main directive of Secretary Toots is to review our recruitment policies kaya nirerepaso ang rules and regulations ngayon sa dating DOLE, ngayon DMW, na para maging more safe and ethical ang recruitment processes,” DMW Undersecretary Hans Cacdac said.The DMW is offering a reintegration program for returning OFWs and provides them with small business investment and business training.
