Three new Star Wars movies were announced at Celebration 2023, raising the question of whether previously announced Star Wars films were canceled.
Disney’s Lucasfilm has revealed three upcoming Star Wars movies during Star Wars Celebration 2023, and the absence of previously announced projects did not go unnoticed. More than three years after the last Star Wars film hit theaters, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm is bringing the saga back to the big screen with three confirmed Star Wars movies.
Both Johnson and Lucasfilm confirmed a few times that The Last Jedi director’s new Star Wars films were still in discussion, although no solid updates on the project was ever given. Since The Last Jedi, Johnson has directed two big feature films, Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and is currently writing the third entry in the Benoit Blanc series.
3 Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Movie Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie was announced on May 4, 2020, as part of that year’s “May the Fourth” celebrations. Unlike Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, not much was revealed about Waititi’s Star Wars film other than a concept art of a structure that was quite similar to the monolith from Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Mortis arc.
