KOTA KINABALU: A total of 395 illegal immigrants from the Philippines were deported via the Sandakan sea routes on Friday (July 3).

National Security Council director for Sabah, Sitti Saleha, said this was the 20th series of deportation via sea routes this year involving Filipinos and Indonesians.

"Like the other deportations, all those involved have been screened for Covid-19 before they were allowed to leave the country," she said. She said the detainees were also required to undergo strict hygiene SOP throughout their stay here up to their deportation. Sitti thanked the Philippine government for funding the deportation cost especially in the swab tests for their nationals.

"We also hope the Philippine government can consider allowing deportations not based on an every 15-day rotation basis, but based on the original district or area these Filipinos came from," she said.
