A joint operation by the Immigration Department of Kelantan (JIM), Maritime Malaysia, and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) resulted in the detention of 37 illegal immigrants (PATI) working as fishermen in Tok Bali. The four-hour operation involved the examination of 262 foreign nationals, mostly fishermen, at jetties in Kampung Pak Mayong and Gong Kulim. 37 PATI, aged 21 to 52, were arrested for lacking identification documents and overstaying their visas. Further checks revealed some foreigners were misusing social visit passes to work on fishing boats. Eight individuals, including six Vietnamese and two Thai nationals, were detained by AADK during urine tests.

Pengarah JIM Kelantan, Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd. Hassan berkata, PATI yang ditahan itu melibatkan seramai 13 lelaki bersama dua wanita warga Myanmar, 11 lelaki Vietnam, tujuh lelaki Thailand dan masing-masing dua lelaki Laos serta Kemboja. “Kesemua 37 PATI yang ditahan berusia dalam lingkungan 21 hingga 52 tahun didapati tiada dokumen pengenalan sekali gus melakukan kesalahan mengikut Seksyen 6 Akta Imigresen 1959/63 iaitu dan Seksyen 15 akta sama iaitu tinggal lebih masa.
