One of the women accused of the plot owns two nail salons, federal prosecutors say.
CINCINNATI, Ohio — Three women built an incendiary device and snuck it into a nail salon last week in an attempt to burn the facility down, federal prosecutors say.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office accuses Vu of having Bishop and Rennick help her build the explosive device. Text messages on Bishop’s and Rennick’s phones show they planned the incident for at least one week. On Feb. 5, Rennick reportedly made an appointment for a pedicure at Bora Bora Nail Salon in Monroe. Prosecutors say Rennick used name “Katelynn” after Vu told her to get the latest nail appointment she could and to “Just use another name. Sound white.”
A salon employee then found the bag and noticed the smell of gasoline, prosecutors say. The worker opened the package and saw what looked like an explosive device. She took it outside near the salon’s dumpsters, prosecutors say.
