288,000 members of the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP) registered for voluntary contributions exceeding the statutory 11% rate as of October 2024. The Deputy Finance Minister, Lim Hui Ying, stated that members can voluntarily contribute at any time to increase their savings, subject to an annual limit of RM100,000 per year since June 1, 2023. As of October 31, 2024, a total of one million KWSP contributors have made voluntary contributions amounting to RM11.16 billion. The government, through the i-Saraan program, provides matching contributions of up to RM500 per year, subject to a maximum of RM5,000 lifetime for an individual. KWSP allows individuals to register and voluntarily contribute as early as 14 years old to encourage early savings and promote awareness of the importance of long-term savings.

“Caruman sukarela ini boleh dibuat pada bila-bila masa melalui aplikasi mudah alih, perbankan internet, ejen kaunter bank serta kaunter KWSP,” katanya di Dewan Negara, hari ini. Bagi golongan muda, katanya, KWSP membenarkan individu berdaftar dan mencarum secara sukarela seawal usia 14 tahun bagi menggalakkan golongan itu membuat simpanan awal selain memupuk kesedaran kepentingan simpanan jangka panjang serta memanfaatkan gandaan dividen.
