Umno’s Hasni Mohammad was sworn in as the new Johor menteri besar before Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar yesterday.
“We are of the opinion the deadlock will only cause problems to matters that need the state assembly’s approval,” it said, adding that its assemblymen would continue to serve the people and honour the mandate given to PH in the 14th general election. The palace had said in a statement Sultan Ibrahim was satisfied the new coalition had the simple majority to form the state government, when 28 assemblymen chose Gabungan Baharu, compared to 26 choosing PH.
“The sultan of Johor has exercised his prerogative power as stated in the State Constitution to appoint me as the new menteri besar. The Gabungan Baharu coalition will form the new state government, replacing the Pakatan Harapan government,” he said.
