BACOLOD CITY — Cash assistance amounting to P225,000 was turned over to 26 former members of the New People’s Army in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday, March 7.
The assistance was made possible through the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Guihulngan City Social Welfare and Development Office which enables former rebels to start anew with their families, and become part of nation-building. According to the Army, the rebel will undergo the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program , which provides social, economic, and psychological support afforded to former rebels who have decided to return to the fold of the law.
The government will continue to provide assistance and opportunities to former rebels who choose to abandon the armed struggle and return to mainstream society, he added.
