Hitchcock has a total of nine films on the AFI's list of best thrillers, including Psycho, North by Northwest, Rear Window, and Vertigo.
Steven Spielberg Can Still Beat Alfred Hitchcock With More Greatest Thriller Movies Hitchcock and Spielberg have very different styles and legacies. While Hitchcock is considered a pioneer in the mystery, thriller, and horror genres, Spielberg has cast an even wider net - directing everything from harrowing war films to historical dramas to family favorites .
In fact, since the AFI's list was published in 2001, Spielberg has directed more films that would arguably fit in the compilation just as well as E.T. or Jurassic Park. Though more light-hearted, 2002's Catch Me If You Can, widely regarded as one of Spielberg's best films, has elements of the thriller genre. Similarly, 2015's spy drama thriller Bridge of Spies garnered critical acclaim that would likely secure it a place, as did 2017's The Post.
