The standard model returns an impressive 57/56 mpg city/highway in the LE trim with front-wheel drive and 52/52 mpg at the XLE or Limited trim levels. Equipping all-wheel drive on the base model brings those figures down to 53/54 mpg, and XLE and Limited variants fall to 49/50 mpg.
The EPA hasn't rated the Prius Prime, but Toyota has published estimates for the plug-in hybrid model. It claims 53/51 mpg for the SE model and 50/47 for the XSE and XSE Premium trims. However, the Prius Prime can also run in an all-electric mode, where it returns 127 mpg-e in SE guise and 114 mpg-e in XSE or XSE Premium trim. All-electric range totals 44 miles for the Prius Prime SE and up to 39 miles for the XSE and XSE Premium models.
