A bizarre 200 pound Shrek statue has been stolen with the police requesting it to be returned.
A gigantic 200-pound statue from the movie Shrek is missing, and police are launching an investigation to find the culprit. The statue is modeled on the ogre from 2001's Shrek, which features an ogre falling in love with Princess Fiona, a woman cursed to turn into an ogre each night until she is rescued by her true love's kiss.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY After the theft of the statue, WWLP took to Twitter to report the lost Shrek sculpture. While the sculpture hardly looks exactly like the notorious ogre from Shrek and instead looks like the original Shrek concept art, it is still fascinating enough that a gigantic Shrek statue has been stolen, seemingly without any actual suspect that police can isolate. Hatfield Police are asking for the statue to be returned in the condition in which it is found.
The script for Shrek 5 has been finished since 2017, leaving the project wide open for a resurrection. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic played a massive role in the film's delay, and the delays are still ongoing even in 2023. Of course, after Universal acquired DreamWorks, the studio will want to try its hardest to prevent the movie from failing. After so many years, it may be too late for Shrek 5, as audiences have been waiting over a decade for the sequel.
If Shrek 5 ever does get released, it will be very different from Shrek Forever After in the wake of years of limbo. It is expected to focus on another story entirely with a stand-alone narrative that neglects to follow the rest of the series. While it could star the original cast, word has not yet been released about which characters would feature in the film, nor if the voice actors would return.
