PETALING JAYA: Authorities guarding the borders have stopped 20 foreigners from entering the country through hidden routes (lorong tikus) as Malaysia enters the fifth day of the recovery movement control order (MCO).
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said as of Saturday , police checked 48,460 vehicles at 67 roadblocks set up under Op Benteng especially at smaller entry points.He added action would be taken against Malaysians who were in cahoots with human traffickers to smuggle immigrants into the country.
Op Benteng is a multi-agency operation involving the police, armed forces, Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Malaysian Border Security Agency to guard against illegal entry at borders as part of an effort to manage the Covid-19 situation in the country. Separately, Ismail Sabri said police arrested six people and issued RM1,000 compounds to 13 others for flouting recovery MCO rules on Saturday after conducting 69,000 checks nationwide.
