It happened Wednesday morning near La Tuna Canyon Road. One of those killed was from Covina.
Two men were killed Wednesday when a car apparently crashed into the rear of a big rig, leaving the vehicle wedged beneath the truck on the Foothill Freeway in the Verdugo Hills/Sun Valley area.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded at 12:08 a.m. to the westbound Foothill Freeway and La Tuna Canyon Road, where they found the car trapped under the rig, said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball. The men died at the scene. The coroner’s office identified one of the fatally injured men as Miguel Martinez, 57, of Covina. The name of the other man, who was in his 40s, was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
Video from the scene showed crews pulling the crumpled vehicle from beneath the truck, which wound up on the right shoulder of the freeway. The crash closed three lanes of the freeway and the cause of the crash was under investigation, Kimball said.
