PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and 1MDB’s former CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy’s acquittal in the alleged tampering of the auditor-general’s audit report on 1MDB will remain as the prosecution failed to meet deadlines to continue the appeal against the duo’s acquittal.
A three-judge panel, chaired by Justice Hadhariah Syed Ismail and comprising Justices Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim and Azmi Ariffin, unanimously held on Tuesday that the prosecution had failed to meet the deadline of July 6, 2023, to file the petition of appeal against the acquittal of Najib and Arul Kanda.
Judge Hadhariah said the prosecution team had ample time to file for an extension of time on at least three occasions but had failed to do so up until today.
