More than a dozen people have died after a 'destructive' tornado and strong thunderstorms swept through Mississippi, officials say.

Damage is seen in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, in the aftermath of a March 23, 2023, tornado in a still from a video shot by WAPT.At least 19 people died as a "destructive" tornado and strong thunderstorms swept across Mississippi late Friday, leaving a trail of damage for more than 100 miles, local and federal authorities said.

. "We have activated medical support -- surging more ambulances and other emergency assets for those affected. Search and rescue is active." Rolling Fork was "pretty much devastated,” United Cajun Navy President Todd Terrell said in a phone interview with ABC News. Watson urged people to stay away from Silver City unless they have family there. He said the scene was "chaotic," with traffic through the area making it difficult for search and rescue crews to do their jobs.
