Those in attendance at the vigil held in front of Bonita Vista High School described Gillian Aguilera as a “caring and compassionate” girl that was in the “wrong place at the wrong time.'
Friends and family members gathered Monday evening in Chula Vista to mourn the death of a 16-year-old girl, one of two teenagers gunned down while standing outside a Halloween party late last month in National City.
No arrests had been made as of Monday, National City police said. The case remains under investigation. Gillian was not supposed to be at the party that night, according to her mother. The teen had been given permission to go to a different party closer to home, but ended up at the gathering in National City.
Gillian was someone who enjoyed spending time with her friends, caring for her adopted pets and complimenting others’ outfits while they walked down the school hallways, her classmates said at the vigil. “It’s hard to react to things like this, especially because we’re young and she was still young. I just wish she had more time,” said Mharck Cruz, 18, who — like many others at the vigil — lit candles and placed them under Gillian’s photo displayed in front of the school.
