Used BAC Mono R - Delivery Mileage - 1 of 40 Examples [DK1781] for saleFaster than a P1 GTR, the 2.5l, Cosworth-fettled, Duratec-engined BAC Mono startled journalists when it was tested at Anglesey circuit in 2015. At the time its four-cylinder engine revved to 8,000rpm and delivered 305bhp. With a dry weight of just 540kg, it offered a Veyron-matching power to weight ratio of 525hp/ton! Founded by brothers Neill and Ian Briggs in 2009, BAC launched the Mono in 2011. A single seated, centred driving position helps deliver the most focussed driving experience possible. In 2015, the engine was upgraded making the car capable of a 0-60 run of just 2.7 seconds and capable of 170mph flat out. Built solely with the intention of going as fast as possible with as little weight as possible, everything was considered. An intrinsic methodology that has remained to date. The Mono R was launched in 2022 and pays testament to years of continued and unwavering attention to detail. Its 2.5 litre engine remains but has seen a wealth of revisions internally affording more power and higher revs. The most noticeable visual difference to the car is the prominent Formula Three style side mounted airbox which is coupled with the airscoop above the drivers head. A larger bore, but reduced stroke ensures the engine retains its displacement, but now redlines at 9,000rpm; 1,000rpm more than before with 37hp increase and an additional 16lb ft of torque. Fundamental components remain the same, the Hewland FTR sequential and steel wishbones for example, but many of the materials have changed. The R weighs 25kg less than a standard Mono and whilst that may sound minimal; when coupled with the engine revisions, its power to weight ratio jumps from 525hp/ton to 580bhp per ton. Wet.
