The Neil Gaiman adaptation continues to dazzle.

Directed by Henry Selick, Coraline was first released back in 2009.
Now, TheWrap reports that Coraline's re-release in theaters has been a big draw for audiences, with the animated film earning over $4.91 million. The total, which was accumulated after only spending August 14 and 15 in theaters, puts the film's gross behind only Barbie and Oppenheimer on those two days. Coraline has proven so popular that Fathom Events, the company behind the re-release, has announced that the film will return for two additional screenings on August 28 and 29.
The movie's story remains moving and impactful for children and adults alike, and Gaiman's source material is a large reason for this. Gaiman is now a very widely known figure, both for his work as an author and his contributions to the TV landscape. The writer is behind the likes of Good Omens, The Sandman, Lucifer, and American Gods, among others, and has proven adept at telling often darkly fantastical stories in his very own singular tone and voice.
Coraline has remained such a beloved movie, in fact, that calls for a sequel continue even almost 15 years after its release. Dakota Fanning's voice performance as the titular character is a favorite aspect of the film, but other voice performances from Teri Hatcher, Keith David, Ian McShane, and John Hodgman, among others, also helps to bring the story and its world to life to great effect.
