'Waking Life,' 'Minority Report,' 'Lone Star' and 'Cameraperson' will be shown and discussed with Dr. Sean Fitzpatrick
'Waking Life' with David Jewell and Caveh Zahedi. artist: Patrick Thornton.The church of cinema, 14 Pews, is partnering with Dr. Sean Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Jung Center, to present Popcorn Psychology, a month-long exploration of film and discussion.
The series will contain four films, one a week, for a single price, with a long discussion and analytical presentation by Fitzpatrick after. Fitzpatrick has been doing a similar series at the Jung Center for six years, and looks forward to expanding it for the 14 Pews audience. Exploring depths is one of the main themes contained in the four films that will be shown. The schedule includes the Tom Cruise science fiction classic “Minority Report,” Kirsten Johnson’s documentary and autobiographical film “Cameraperson,” Houston’s own Richard Linklater’s experimental rotoscoped animated film “Waking Life,” and the 1996 Texas western “Lone Star.”
“I am fundamentally a psychotherapist,” says Fitzpatrick. “There are some culture that have the mic and the control of the way they tell their stories again and again about themselves. What is essential is telling stories that are elemental, the ego and the dominant culture. It’s there that we find justice and liberation and wholeness that we didn’t realize was possible.
