An outbreak of Covid-19 within the St. Louis Cardinals organization rose to 13 people causing the team to postpone playing until August 7 at the earliest, as the future of the MLB season remains in question by MattRyanPerez
The team learned of the positive cases while in Milwaukee, with the infected players traveling back to St. Louis while the rest of the team remains in Milwaukee.,"at least a couple Cardinals did go to a casino," and the"MLB has since tightened its rule on leaving the team hotel from very strongly discouraged to not allowed.
The Cardinals are the second team with a significant outbreak since the start of the season, with the Miami Marlins so far reporting 21 positive cases, impacting numerous team schedules. While other North American sports leagues like the NBA, NHL and MLS have safely return to play amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the MLB has struggled with its looser format that allows for travel between different ballparks, prompting Commissioner Rob Manfred to
tell the league's player association that the season could be cancelled if teams didn't do a better job of mitigating the virus.
