11-year-old girl killed after being hit by truck in Salt Lake City

UPDATE Police say an 11-year-old girl was person killed after being hit by a truck while walking in a Salt Lake City crosswalk yesterday.

SALT LAKE CITY — An 11-year-old girl has been identified as the person killed in a deadly vehicle accident involving a pickup truck in Salt Lake City on Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to the area at 2100 East and 1300 South just after 3:30 p.m. and found witnesses performing life-saving aid on the girl. The child was transported to the hospital in critical condition where she later died. According to police, the 47-year-old driver of a Nissan pickup truck was turning from 1300 South to 2100 East when they hit the victim who was in a marked crosswalk. The driver of the truck stayed on scene and cooperated with the police investigation.The death was the 24th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City this year.
