Okta, an identity management company with a $11.6 billion market cap, has poached long-time Google executive Diya Jolly to serve as its new chief product officer by jillianiles
a $11.6 billion market capJolly spent nearly eight years at Google in a variety of management positions and will fill a role that’s been empty since previous product execOkta sells cloud software to help businesses manage user authentication for their employees—like letting workers easily sign into multiple apps through one platform—and Jolly says that she's long wrestled with questions of online identity.
In her most recent position at Google, heading up product management for smart home devices like its voice-powered speakers and Nest gadgets, she spent time thinking about how different users should be able to access different information through the same products, for example. “I believe that secure and trusted online identity is the key to taking the internet to the next level,” she tellsBefore she joined Google’s smart home division, she worked on YouTube monetization for about five years. At Okta, Jolly will report to cofounder and CEO Todd McKinnon, who says that her track record at Google helped sway his hire.
“If you can find a person that was put in really important jobs at important times for a company, that’s a really good candidate,” he says. “Google knew Diya very well, and they put her in charge of ads for YouTube five years ago, which was super critical to Google as a growth business.” Similarly, he says, Google had her working on its smart home business as it was competing fiercely with Amazon’s Alexa devices.Jolly will be responsible for evolving Okta's product offerings, including by introducing more artificial intelligence systems into the platform.I’m a San Francisco-based staff writer for Forbes reporting on Google and the rest of the Alphabet universe, as well as artificial intelligence more broadly.
