Drama is the most respected film genre; it's taken the most seriously and scoops up most of the awards. This is reasonable, as drama movies tend to take on genuine issues and believable characters, making them more psychologically complex and narratively ambitious than most other genres. Dramas are also more reliant on compelling performances and good writing to hold the viewer's attention.

Endless Love tells the story of Jade and David , two teenagers whose obsessive romance spirals out of control, leading to tragedy. Despite being based on Scott Spencer’s acclaimed novel, the film strips away much of the book's psychological complexity, opting instead for a shallow and melodramatic portrayal of young love.
Critics lambasted the film for its preachy dialogue, wooden acting, and a narrative that feels more like a series of monologues than a cohesive story. Simply put, the movie is propaganda, and the ideological message is delivered with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. The book was also largely panned as being poorly written and narratively weak, but at least it delivered some food for thought. This film, by contrast, is just a mess.
Sam Mraovich, who not only directed but also wrote and starred in the film, delivers a performance that is often awkward and always unconvincing. There are also continuity errors aplenty along with utterly bizarre casting choices. On top of that, the cinematography is so shoddy that the film looks like it was shot on a Nokia 3310. The finished product is laughably bad, so much so that Ben and Arthur has become a 'so-bad-it's-good' cult classic.
