The DCEU failed several beloved characters over the years. Now, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe can revisit them and do them justice.
The old DCEU failed many characters throughout its run, and the rebooted DC Universe can finally give those characters their due. The DCEU originally had director Zack Snyder's vision as its guide, but after a string of disappointing movies, DC opted to part ways with him, leaving the DCEU aimless. Throughout both phases of the DCEU — with and without Snyder — the universe failed to authentically bring some of DC's most iconic characters to life.
Martian Manhunter was severely underused in the DCEU or never actually used, depending on what is and is not canon, so the DC Universe has a clean slate when adapting the character. The DC Universe needs to make the character a big part of its universe going forward, as Martian Manhunter is one of the Justice League's main members in most iterations of the team. His inclusion would be a great way to differentiate the team from the previous version.
7 Darkseid DC's biggest villain, Darkseid, had a small role in the DCEU. The villain appeared in a flashback sequence in Zack Snyder's Justice League, showing how he was defeated in the past by a wide array of heroes banding together, which was present in the theatrical cut but with no Darkseid, as well as later scenes in the movie's present-day.
The actor was a great choice for the role and would not feel out of place as Deathstroke in Gunn's DC Universe, with Manganiello still being game to return as the character. As the new DC will focus on bringing characters closer to their comic book counterparts, Deathstroke has a wide range of possibilities, with him being a Batman villain just one of them.
