One man was killed and others were injured Monday when two motor homes collided along the Seward Highway near Indian, police said.
Anchorage police were called to Mile 103 of the highway just after 3 p.m. Monday for an accident involving two vehicles. Police wrote inthat it appears two motor homes — one heading south and the other heading north on the highway — collided head-on.
A man who was driving the southbound vehicle was taken to a hospital by medics, where he later died, police wrote. A woman who was a passenger in that motor home was also taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The identity of the man who died will be released after his next of kin is notified, police said.
The woman driving the northbound motor home and a minor who was a passenger were also taken to the hospital for what police said were non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers from that vehicle reported minor injuries, police said. No charges have been filed in relation to the crash, police said in the statement, and an investigation is ongoing. Police were processing the collision scene on Monday evening, and both lanes of the highway were shut down. In the statement, police advised drivers to avoid the area and change travel plans accordingly.
Correction: Anchorage police initially reported that the driver of the northbound motor home was a man, but later issued a correction and said it was a woman.
