While Fondevilla claimed that more than 100 persons were rescued following the event, PCG’s initial data revealed that 90 passengers, along with five crew members, were saved.
Asked what caused the sinking, Fondevilla said an initial investigation has yet to be conducted, but survivors were claiming that water entered the vessel because of a hole. “Ang sabi po ay parang merong nabutas [sa vessel]. Malakas po kasi ang alon dito sa ating area pero wala naman pong gale warning. In the middle of their voyage, biglang may nabutas dito sa bandang engine at tuloy-tuloy na pong pumasok ang tubig,” Fondevilla explained,
