Police responded to a shooting at a birthday party in Antioch early Sunday, officials said.

An 18-year-old woman died and six people were injured in a shooting at a birthday party in Antioch, an East Bay city 45 miles northeast of San Francisco, officialsThe Antioch Police Department said in a Facebook post that it received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at a home 3300 block of Sunset Lane just before 1 a.m. Sunday.
Police rushed to the scene, found a large crowd outside the home and multiple injured people, according to a news release. Police said they learned seven individuals had been wounded; some went to local hospitals on their own. An 18-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and died.
Witnesses told police that a large group of people were gathered at the residence for a 19-year-old man’s birthday party; they said shots were fired when “uninvited guests” showed up at the party, according to police. “This created a panic,” police said in the Facebook post, and party attendees, including some with gunshots wounds, “fled in multiple directions and into the neighborhood.”The shooting is under investigation and police are interviewing witnesses and residents in the neighborhood.
