MIRI: A flood alert has been issued in three areas in Sarawak after the water levels at their river basins breached the warning point.
Sarawak Disaster Relief Management Committee secretariat on Sunday said that the State Drainage and Irrigation Department had issued a warning this morning on the water levels.
The DID reports said that its rainfall and river monitoring stations in three divisions of Mukah, Miri and Kuching showed alert levels being surpassed.In Miri Division, the Sibuti River basin is 1.26m above the alert level, while the Sampadi Laut basin in Kuching Division has received 103mm of rainfall since midnight and the river is rising fast.
"At these river basins where the monitoring stations recorded water above alert levels, the residents must be prepared. They must be on constant alert for rain and floods," said the committee secretariat.The landas is the equivalent of the monsoon in the east coast states of the peninsula.
