The Prime Minister expresses his congratulations to Indian actor, C. Joseph Vijay, who has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time. With Vijay leading the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, a major political shift occurs, as the party emerges as the largest with 108 seats, but still falls short of the necessary 118 seats to form a majority government. Through intense negotiations, the parties receive support from Indian National Congress (Congress), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). The combination of these supports surpasses the threshold of 118 seats and forms the new government.
PETALING JAYA: Perdana Menteri merakamkan ucapan tahniah kepada bintang filem India, C. Joseph Vijay yang kini merupakan Ketua Menteri Tamil Nadu . Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim berkata, para peminat setia Vijay menyaksikan beliau menewaskan ahli politik korup dan pelbagai penjahat selama bertahun-tahun menerusi filem dibintangi.
“Kini, rakyat Tamil Nadu telah memberikan Vijay tanggungjawab yang jauh lebih besar daripada mana-mana watak yang pernah dibawanya di layar perak. “Oru Viral Puratchi , kini berada di ambang mencipta sejarah,” katanya menerusi hantaran di Facebook, hari ini. Vijay mengangkat sumpah sebagai Ketua Menteri Tamil Nadu selepas parti Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam berjaya memperoleh majoriti. TVK muncul sebagai parti terbesar dengan 108 kerusi, namun masih gagal mencapai majoriti mudah 118 kerusi.
Selepas Vijay mengosongkan satu daripada dua kerusi yang dimenanginya, kekuatan parti itu berkurangan kepada 107 kerusi. Beberapa hari berikutnya menyaksikan rundingan intensif diadakan dengan parti-parti kecil bagi mendapatkan sokongan tambahan. Indian National Congress menjadi parti pertama menyatakan sokongan menerusi lima ahli dewan undangan negeri dimilikinya. Perkembangan paling penting berlaku apabila Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi , Communist Party of India , Communist Party of India-Marxist dan Indian Union Muslim League masing-masing mengumumkan sokongan dengan dua MLA setiap parti.
Sokongan itu menjadikan jumlah keseluruhan kerusi disokong meningkat kepada 120 melepasi ambang majoriti 118 kerusi.
